Community Vegetable Gardens
Cultivating Food Security and Community.
We believe that sustainable solutions to hunger start within the community. Our Food Security Project began as an initiative to transform neglected dumping sites across Bhambayi into thriving vegetable gardens. Today, there are four large gardens cared for by dedicated members of the community.
These gardens are more than just a source of food—they foster a sense of communal responsibility and connection, offering residents the opportunity to work together, share knowledge, and build lasting bonds. Through the project, GOLDCO additionally promotes the “One House, One Garden” initiative, encouraging families to plant vegetables at home, whether in their yards, small containers, or repurposed buckets.
By empowering the community to grow our own food, we strengthen food security, promote self-sufficiency, and nurture a healthier, more resilient community. Every seed planted brings the community closer to a future where no one goes hungry.
